In this interview Hilmar Hansen (June 24, 1916) discusses his Norwegian heritage; his childhood years in Fortine; his own work (beginning in the 1930s) for the Northern Pacific on pick lines, welding crews, and as track inspector; Libby characters including Dunn Creek Nell, Jim O'Brien; hunting and fishing in and around Libby; the Lutheran Church in Libby; involvment with Democratic Party in Montana; role of Zonolite, J. Neils Company and railroads in economy of Libby; service in U.S. Navy; leaving work for railroad due to back injuries; electrical work for J. Neils Company; union activity with Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners; vermiculite and asbestos exposure and controversy in Libby; his struggles with asbestosis. (OH 2005)
